News New Care opens first Yorkshire care home

New Care has officially opened its new £15m Yorkshire care home Adel Manor. Enjoying semi-rural views, Adel Manor, New Care’s tenth care facility in the UK and its first in Yorkshire, boats state-of-the-art residential, nursing, dementia, and respite care services.

The home has 74 en suite bedrooms, and residents can make use of communal lounges, landscaped gardens, dining rooms, quiet reading rooms, a nail bar, and hairdresser. According to New Care, Adel Manor will create 100 new jobs – from carers and nurses, to hospitality, housekeeping, maintenance, and chefs.

To celebrate the opening of Adel Manor, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Asghar Khan, was invited to take an exclusive tour, cut the red ribbon, and declare the care home open, assisted by Adel Manor’s first resident, Valerie Maunder, aged 76. Mayor Khan said: “I was delighted to be

invited by New Care to officially open Adel Manor. It is a very welcoming environment with state-of-the art facilities and a great community ethos and spirit. I hope all the new residents settle into their new home quickly and have the opportunity to fully enjoy their

new surroundings and the services on offer.” Dawn Collett, commissioning director at New Care, added: “We are thrilled to have opened our first care home in Yorkshire and it was a pleasure to welcome Cllr Asghar Khan to Adel Manor to look around the care facility, meet the team and learn more about the company.” Not content to rest on its laurels, New Care will open its second Yorkshire care home next year. Construction of the 72-bed home in Guiseley is due to finish in April. Of this latest project, Dawn Collett commented: “Work is progressing well on site and we are very much looking forward to the development taking shape later this year, opening a second stunning care facility in the Guiseley conservation area.”

Orchard asks staff to pick a diploma

Middleton Park Lodge Nursing Home in Leeds is offering every new member of nursing staff access to the company’s leadership development programme, where they can gain a diploma in leadership management. The Orchard Care Homes initiative comes in response to the ongoing, and acute, care

sector skills shortage. There are currently a staggering 170,000 vacancies in the sector – a figure that seems likely to grow larger still. Care roles are not known for their career progression, but Orchard hopes to change that. Its current CEO Hayden Knight started his career as a care assistant and progressed to senior management, and this new scheme aims to help other Orchard employees make the journey to senior roles. Orchard is encouraging other providers to follow suit. Middleton Park Lodge Home manager,

Lindsey Leatham, said: “Solving the current skills shortage in the care sector is no easy task but we believe this can be addressed by ensuring all employees feel valued, respected, safe, and secure in their roles. Orchard is proud to be leading the way with career development opportunities on top of other incentives such as welcome packages up to £5000 for new nursing staff. Rewarding commitment to the sector, financially or through personal development, is an expectation that we are pleased to hold ourselves accountable to.”

The leasehold to Maryfield Convent Care Home was sold for an undisclosed price. The home, which was closed as a care business in August 2021, comprises 18 single bedrooms and 4 flats organised over three floors. The property was built in the late 1970s and until its closure had been operated by the Dominican Sisters of Malta, who live in the convent next door.

Pinnacle plans to refurbish the building and reopen it as a care home. Speaking on behalf of the Dominican Sisters of Malta, Sister Mary Anne said: “We were very sad to have had to close the business in 2021 but are delighted to have leased the property to Pinnacle Care Homes Ltd and look forward to working with them to re-establish a care home in the building. This is going to be of great benefit to the local community who we have served for a good number of years.” Mr Sujith Nair, director of Pinnacle Care Homes, commented: “Maryfield Care Home is a lovely property in a beautiful setting, and we are so pleased to be taking over the lease of the property. This will be our second care home and we are excited about rebuilding the business and working with everyone to create a caring and supportive environment for our future residents and staff.” Christie’s Charles Phillips added: “We are delighted to have been able to assist the Dominican Sisters of Malta with the leasehold sale of their care home. A very good level of interest was expressed from applicants for a variety of different care uses resulting in a number of offers being submitted. This is the second care home Pinnacle Care Homes Ltd has purchased through us and we are confident that they will create a very successful business.

“There is great demand for care homes throughout the south of England, both on a trading and closed basis, as shown by the number of offers received during this marketing campaign.”
