WCS Care is trialling a wireless version of CLB’s acoustic night-time monitoring system with a view to retrofitting it in the Warwickshire provider’s older care homes. Having installed acoustic monitoring in

its three newbuild care homes, residents at The Limes in Stratford-Upon-Avon are the first in the world to benefit from CLB’s wireless system. The systems installed in WCS Care’s newbuild homes, which reduced night-time falls by 34 per cent in the first year of use, are hard-wired; something which limits its rollout in its older homes. Another first is the implementation of

multi-site monitoring with The Limes being remotely monitored from another WCS Care home. “This strategy has provided oversight

and staff support for the night carers at The Limes, enhanced care quality and reduced night staff costs by 17 per cent,” the care

detects sounds in residents’ rooms and sends an alert when the sound level in a room exceeds individually set thresholds. The alerts are constantly monitored and, if

there is no sound from a resident’s room, they are left to sleep rather than being disturbed by hourly door checks through the night. The WCS Care accounts meanwhile

showed the charity generated a surplus of £1.984m in the year ending 31 March 2021, up from £412,000 a year earlier. The provider, which operates 13 care

homes across Warwickshire, saw income from sales increase by 10.6 per cent, mainly as a result of new sales at Woodside Care Village in Warwick, which opened in November 2019.
