News NHS England abolition is a ‘seismic change’
Care England has referred to the government’s decision to abolish NHS England as a ‘seismic change to the health and social care landscape’. According to the leading voice for adult social care providers in England, the move to bring the management of the NHS back under direct government control represents ‘a significant opportunity to reset the dial on integration, funding, and innovation’ and to ‘develop innovative models of care that truly integrate social care and health services’. Care England is calling for:
n A clear strategy on how social care will be embedded in the new structures to drive better outcomes for people who rely on both services.
n A commitment to sustainable funding for social care to support hospital discharge,
reduce pressure on the NHS, and enable people to live independently for longer.
n A national Continuing Healthcare (CHC) framework that mirrors Funded Nursing Care (FNC) practice, ensuring fair, consistent, and timely decisions across all local areas.
Professor Martin Green OBE, chief executive of Care England, said: “The decision to abolish NHS England is one of the most significant reforms to our health and social care system in a generation. While the full implications of this change are yet to be seen, this is a moment to ensure that social care is fully recognised as an equal partner in the health and care system. The success of the NHS depends on a sustainable and properly funded social care sector, and this announcement must mark the beginning of a new era of integration and collaboration. “If this change is to succeed, it must not
be a rebranding exercise. It must deliver real benefits for people who need care and support. Social care is not an adjunct to the NHS, it is a vital part of the system, and this reform must finally acknowledge that reality.”

Care Workers’ Charity publishes landmark report
The Care Workers’ Charity (CWC) has published a landmark report summarising key insights from a series of roundtable discussions on the future of adult social care. The discussions brought together care
workers, people drawing on care, care providers, and advocacy groups to examine the challenges facing the sector and ideas for reform.
Roundtables on the future of adult social
care outlines key priorities for reform, including the need to elevate the status of care work, ensure sustainable funding, and embed the voices of care workers and those drawing on care at the heart of decision- making. Participants also called for a wider
national conversation on how society values care, ensuring that reforms move beyond crisis management towards a system that supports dignity, autonomy, and fulfilling lives.
CWC CEO Karolina Gerlich said: “This report is a call to action. Now could be a turning point for social care, but only if it is backed by sustained investment and shaped by those on the frontline. Our roundtable discussions demonstrated the urgent need for reform – not just in funding, but in how we value care as a society. This is about creating a system that works for care workers, for people drawing on care, their friends, family and wider community now and for the future.”
Simon Lawrence, and Greg Simmonds, senior regional culinary and hospitality manager, Avery Healthcare has built a culture of excellence in food safety and hygiene, with the provider winning the Care Home Award for Best Food Nutrition and Dining Services in both 2022 and 2023. Simon Lawrence said: “It is crucial when
working with vulnerable residents that a consistently high standard of food hygiene and safety is always upheld. This can only be achieved through outstanding leadership, development, and teamwork from our head chefs and culinary departments.” Allan Brazier, director of resident
experience, commented: “We are dedicated to maintaining these high standards and ensuring our residents receive the best possible dining experience.”
