NEWS COVER STORY
The psychological impact of the pandemic is still emerging, with more people than ever seeking community mental healthcare. A recent report from the Care Quality Commission suggested that due to community health services struggling with the increased capacity, it is seeing more people detained under the Mental Health Act. Darwin Group has recently handed over a 1,198m2 modular mental healthcare ward in Chertsey, Surrey. The 20-bedroom accommodation block is designed to provide older adult inpatients with a more modern and therapeutic environment. Guided by HTM and HBN requirements, the environment is ligature- minimised. The volumetric modular building offers accessible single occupancy rooms with en-suite facilities, a kitchen area, internal and external communal spaces, and staff rooms. Fully aligned to a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) approach, and employing our volumetric next- generation mental healthcare modular buildings, that are

Jim Pierce, Chief Commercial Officer at Darwin Group, said: “As a proud British company, it is our honour to add this to our portfolio. Garden ‘transformation’ filmed by BBC
When the North Mersey Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) decided to transform its outdoor space, it never dreamt the impact it would have, or that the journey would be supported, documented, and broadcast, by BBC Two’s Your Garden Made Perfect team. The team knew the overgrown outdoor
space at Kingslea House in Manchester had untapped potential, and with the pandemic resulting in limited indoor seating capacity, increased isolation for vulnerable service- users, and fewer chances to safely bring people together for fun activities, they decided to act, successfully bidding for a small portion of the £38.9 m raised by Captain Sir Tom Moore for NHS charities to transform the garden into a greener, more welcoming space. The team wanted a beautiful, interactive
garden, and applied to be a part of season two of BBC Two’s Your Garden Made Perfect. The programme’s expert community garden designer, Tayshan Hayden-Smith, worked with team members to design and create a visually appealing, therapeutic, and social green outdoor space, bringing together individuals and services from across the Trust. Elizabeth Scantlebury, Wellbeing Therapist at GMMH’s Recovery Pathways service, designed a feature mural to which the whole team could contribute.

Static Systems welcomes new Commercial director
Gareth Walsh, who has worked in the healthcare sector for 25 years, 18 of them with medical device specialist, Olympus, has been appointed as the new Commercial director at Static Systems Group, the global provider of alarm and communication solutions for healthcare and secure establishments. Sitting on the company’s Board, he

days the team worked to make the design a reality – closely documented by the BBC camera crew – resulting in a garden with seating areas, a water feature, wild
‘stepping stones’, raised beds, ‘succulent frames’, and the community mural, plus a ‘thank you’ message for Sir Captain Tom. Rachel Clarke, Advanced clinical
practitioner, said: “Our garden has gone from a place you’d walk straight past, to a place you want to sit and enjoy the quiet. It’s a diverse space for people to relax, spend time in nature, or catch up over a cup of tea. Our service-users have really benefitted from being able to wait for appointments there, and sometimes they even stay for just that bit longer once finished. We get many compliments from our neighbours too, and it’s definitely been a great way to attract local wildlife and support conservation efforts.”
will be responsible for ensuring that SSG continues to support users of its solutions ‘by maximising the functionality and uptime of the equipment supplied’. Rosie Cunningham Thomas, SSG’s managing director, said: “Gareth is an ideal fit for SSG, particularly at this critical phase in our growth. He has an excellent track record, and his career success to date demonstrates his commitment to being a supportive and transformational leader who influences change by example and team ownership.” Gareth Walsh added: “I am pleased to be joining SSG at such an exciting time in the company’s continued growth. My vision for our world-class customer- facing team is to provide trusted insight and advice throughout each stage of the customer journey – from initial interest to end of equipment life – maximising equipment efficacy and providing the right support at the right time and in the right place.” The new appointee graduated with a
degree in Human Biology from Oxford Brookes University. He will work closely with recently appointed Strategic Marketing director, Zillah Moore.
