Year/month Trends in D-dimer activity across NWLP.
With remote access, staff no longer need to be tied to their workstations or even the laboratory if there is an instrument or reagent issue to resolve
customers – a secure online portal for accessing a range of information including brochure and standard operating procedures (SOP). Mr Kent and the team use this regularly and it also gives them access to the updated Qualiris portal, Stago’s international external quality assurance (EQA) programme. “NWLP now uses this alongside other established national EQA programmes to monitor the network’s performance against its peers,” he added. Across the STA R Max range, the STA Coag Expert automatically validates routine results while being able to handle outlier or urgent samples. Mr Kent commented on the versatility of the expert rules that can be set up, so that the instruments automatically identify and prioritise STAT samples improving urgent pathway turnaround time. Coag Expert includes reference range calculations, so that decisions on whether to organise a rerun, reflex testing or even additional tests can be decided automatically without needing manual intervention.
Range of remote support services
Perhaps the most recent feature that has caught the attention of the laboratory is Stago’s new Sightcall service, an app

providing a visual way of accessing immediate help from a Stago expert. According to Mr Kent it is “an innovative solution that takes up no space and yet it gives us instant, problem-solving access to Stago.”
Each instrument carries a QR code sticker that laboratory staff simply scan on their phones. This immediately opens a remote, visual support service. A staff member can send images and receive assistance in real time from Stago’s service team.
North West London Pathology is also looking to tap into Stago’s most advanced remote access service,
Connect. One, to enable it to quickly access the company’s engineering and support team. Stago uses the most secure Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) block chain technology, first developed by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), to manage government data. The laboratory is in the final stages of having remote access connectivity approved by the trust’s rigorous IT governance system.
Commitment and adaptability With remote access, Stago point out that staff no longer need to be tied to their workstations or even the laboratory if there is an instrument or reagent issue to resolve. Also, there is no need to
take time out to compile often complex data quantifying any problem. Instead,
Connect. One is able to gather this almost instantaneously and use it to fast- track a solution, often without the need for a field service visit. As Mr Lyall explained: “With connectivity in place, all this is done without involving staff time. Instead, they are freed to carry out more valuable work, without interrupting workflow. It becomes obvious very quickly that this helps maintain quality of service and improves our customer experience. “Stago has created a range of remote solutions to help us problem-solve more efficiently. In some cases, the problem can be dealt with immediately on the phone, or even using Sightcall – but if that is not possible, we would activate
Connect. One to search for the problem and initiate remote engineering support.”
Summing up the support NWLP has
received from Stago, Mr Lyall added: ”Over the six years that we have partnered with Stago, their commitment and adaptability stands out. We value the expertise and approachability of their staff and their willingness to understand and adapt their offering to suit our specific needs.”
