He said: “There are, conversely, many digital installations out there that are retrofitted, using surface- mounted trunking, following the completion of a theatre refurbishment. With us – which both benefits infection control, and helps get theatres finished quicker – everything is integrated into the walls and pendants.”
Distribution deal
Howorth has extended the range of equipment and service it offers to the healthcare sector. It is the UK Distributor (excluding Ireland) for Trumpf Medical operating lights and service pendants.
Howorth has a long history of supplying third party pendants and operating lights. Tom Ford, commented: “Trumpf recognised Howorth’s unique position in the critical care environments. Howorth have the sales, engineering, installation and service teams covering
the UK needed to properly support Trumpf’s existing customers and it is the intention of both companies to expand operations in the UK.” Tom Ford explained that the latest iteration of Trumpf Medical’s operating theatre lights, the iLED 7, had been on the market for about 18 months. He said: “This product is both wirelessly controlled and offers wireless video technology via a camera that users can literally attach on the light. A fully self- contained operating light with excellent shadow management, it offers a 160,000 lux output.
“The high lux output and excellent
colour rendition are a major boon for surgeons, particularly in, for example, distinguishing healthy and diseased tissue, while the LED light packs’ low running costs make the iLED 7 one of the most economical such products whole-life cost-wise. The optional wireless camera simply clips onto a module on the light itself; it can thus be purchased separately at any time. The HD camera fits onto the centre of the operating light. quality, and can be moved easily from location to location.” Highlighting the Trumpf Medical pendants Howorth now markets in the UK, Tom Ford said: “I believe the TruPort pendants – with a unique modular design – are among the market’s best. While the surgical team still sets out where they want their gases, electrics, and other connections at planning stage, the services connections on the TruPorts are on removable aluminium tiles on each console. “Once the pendants are in situ, we can thus add or subtract services, and re-position the gas, electric, or data socket, simply by removing a cover strip, taking out a tile, and moving it to another face. On a recent job at the London Clinic’s new ITU, the unit’s manager wanted the medical gases on one side of the pendant and electrics on the other, this was different to what had been signed off.
