Sustainable decontamination in the spotlight
Following the success of conferences held in recent years, DECON UK is back for the fifth year running, with the 2026 conference, taking place at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton on Friday, 24 April. This marks an exciting change, as the event will be held at a new venue.
Jointly run by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, this year’s conference is themed around sustainability covering important topics which are vital to the future of best practice within the decontamination and infection prevention and control sector.
DECON UK 2026 will be a valuable learning
resource to all those who work within, or have an interest in, decontamination, sterilisation, and infection prevention and control. Sustainability At this year’s event, several initiatives aimed at making DECON UK 2026 more sustainable have been announced. The organising committee has taken the following steps to support this commitment: l Catering: The organisers are working closely with the venue to develop a more
carbon-conscious lunch menu. This includes avoiding red meat and incorporating a wider range of plant-based options.
l Delegate bags: To minimise waste, the organisers will be offering a virtual delegate bag instead of a physical one.
l Promotional materials: All pre-event information, as well as the post-event survey and certificates of attendance, will be distributed electronically.
l Travel: The organisers are encouraging delegates to consider greener travel options such as car-sharing and public transport. Information on nearby electric vehicle charging points will also be provided.
l Badge wallets: All delegate badge wallets will be clip-on and reused at future events.
l Lanyards: Delegates who prefer to use a lanyard are encouraged to bring their own. l Hydration: The organisers are inviting all
