Arab Health preview
Cutting-edge UK innovation showcased at Arab health
The ABHI UK Pavilion is heading back to the Dubai World Trade Centre for Arab Health 2024. The show – the largest of its kind in the Middle East – offers an impressive platform for leading HealthTech pioneers from the UK to showcase their innovative solutions and technologies to the booming healthcare market in the MENA region. CSJ spoke to ABHI’s Michelle Michelucci about the show’s enduring significance on the global stage.
Healthcare opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are booming. The growth in demand is being driven by a combination of factors: rapid population growth, increasing life expectancy, and a surging prevalence of chronic and non-communicable diseases. Increased funding suggests the health sector will continue to grow – according to the latest projections, the MENA healthcare market is poised to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.7 percent, from U.S.$185.5 billion in 2019 to U.S.$243.6 billion in 20231

- twice as fast as the global healthcare As the population expands, and
healthcare standards rise, so does the need for innovative health technologies and solutions – and UK HealthTech companies can tap into this expanding market. Like many other countries, Saudi Arabia, for instance, has intensified efforts to improve access to preventative care, creating opportunities for new models of care. A key
plank of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision for 2030” is its Health Sector Transformation Programme, which aims to restructure the health sector to be a comprehensive, effective and integrated health system. Meanwhile, the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) healthcare free zone in the UAE, offers modern, purpose-built facilities for healthcare and life science - providing an attractive, conducive environment for HealthTech innovators from the UK to access a growing market, and make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector in the UAE and the broader Middle East region. The opportunity is clear, but how can
innovators successfully establish a foothold in this thriving market? The market, culture and environment differ significantly from those in the UK, making the prospect of doing business there seem challenging. At the forefront of championing the UK’s
health technology sector stands the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) – the
UK’s leading industry association for health technology. ABHI brings a wealth of regulatory expertise, as well as international market access knowledge, enabling SMEs to navigate the complexities of establishing their presence on the global stage with confidence, especially in key markets like the Middle East. Michelle Michelucci, the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI)’s Head of International Events, comments: “The Middle East presents a remarkable and ever-expanding canvas of opportunities for UK companies in the HealthTech sector. As technology continues to revolutionise healthcare, the region offers a dynamic platform for innovation and collaboration. At ABHI, we are committed to supporting our member companies in seizing these opportunities. Through our extensive network, market insights and partnerships, we can help UK HealthTech firms navigate the complexities of the MENA market, connect with the right stakeholders, and foster growth.”
Maximising impact on the global stage One of ABHI’s central objectives is to create a conducive environment that encourages growth for the sector – enabled through a comprehensive programme of international activity, which includes hosting UK Pavilions at some of the world’s largest healthcare trade shows. A cornerstone of this initiative is the world-renowned Arab Health Exhibition, known as the Middle East’s largest healthcare trade event, and the world’s second largest. Each year the show brings the global healthcare community together to discover the way forward through sustainable and innovative solutions that can tackle the most important and complex challenges facing the global healthcare landscape.
