washer-disinfectors at Royal Free London Decontamination Services is critical to ensure patient safety. However, with increasing pressures due to the pandemic, the need for efficiency has never been more important for decontamination units. “The increase in patient procedures due to delays caused by COVID-19 has been a significant challenge,” David commented. “With every hospital increasing patient surgery and endoscope procedures, ensuring that we have the resources to meet demand has required extra attention.” Before using Trazanto, David and his team operated with standard protocols such as daily autoclave testing via Bowie Dick Test Packs and manually recording data on record sheets. With Trazanto, the Royal Free London Decontamination Services team were hoping to move away from this process.
Trazanto performance within the Decontamination Services Unit David said that a major selling point for the Trazanto was the scanning system: “Traditionally our records and tests would be sent to a third party to scan electronically; however, with the Trazanto scanning system, we are able to remove the third party and store all of our records electronically ourselves as part of the daily process,” he explained. “Trazanto will save staff time in both
short-term and long-term, which in turn saves money, as will the ability to scan and store our records electronically ourselves without sending to a third party. One of the goals of the unit is to bring income back into the NHS, and by finding solutions like Trazanto, we are able to boost our savings,” David continued.
Bionova Traceability Software With Bionova Cloud software optional, David and his team opted to switch over the new technology. This not only helps with daily autoclave testing, but also in recording protein
testing and washer-disinfector testing. “We use the Bionova system for protein testing. This is a requirement from HTM, and the Bionova system provides us with the quantitative figure that is required,” David explained. “Using the same software as Trazanto, we are able to keep all of our records and data in the same place, making it easy to access.” David reported that there has been positive feedback from all the staff who use Trazanto. “They find that the process is easier and more efficient, saving them time. The majority of our processes are electronic, so changing to Trazanto pushes us even closer to reducing the amount of manual paperwork processes we have within the unit. The scanning facility gives us a long-term cost saving on having to send paperwork away for scanning. In addition, the scanning function – that records the pass or fails and details of the test sheet itself – not only saves time for staff but also reduces the risk for error,” David concluded.
It is a great piece of technology which has made daily testing a lot quicker and easier for us. On a day-to-day basis, we work with tight time constraints; using the Bionova/Trazanto has made our mornings seamless and has significantly

AUGUST 2021 Summary
The feedback from David and his team at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust confirmed exactly what Sychem wanted to achieve from implementing the Trazanto and cloud-based traceability software. Switching to the Trazanto from their previous paper-based solution helped them align their goals of moving to digital processes. As well as this, Bionova Traceability Software has enabled the team the ability to store all data on their washer-disinfectors, sterilisers and even protein residue testing all on one system for comprehensive traceability. Moreover, Trazanto and Bionova
Traceability Software help significantly reduce the possibility of human error when technicians are processing loads. Thus, providing further peace of mind that washing and sterilisation cycles are working effectively, and that the decontamination services unit can continue to work quickly and efficiently.
