INSTITUTE NEWS Ventilation Platform seeks engagement


The Institute has re-established its Ventilation Technical Platform, with Andrew Poplett MIHEEM (pictured) – an experienced engineer with over 35 years’ experience working both within and for the NHS – appointed as interim chair. For the past decade he has been an independent Authorising Engineer for both ventilation and water, and has been responsible for the production of various guidance and briefing notes on specialist healthcare ventilation systems, including most recently as lead author on The ventilation aspects and precautions of Coronavirus COVID-19, for the Specialised Ventilation for Healthcare Society John Adamson CEng, MIHEEM, Estates and Compliance Manager at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, Harry Evans MIHEEM, IHEEM AE(W), from


Engie, Jeremy Beales MIHEEM, an Associate Engineer from DSSR, and Richard Harris CEng, IHEEM, from Rolevale Services, have also all agreed to fulfil the governance committee roles of the Platform for an initial two- year term, after which time it is anticipated that open nominations and appointments will be made, from the membership of the Platform. IHEEM is seeking volunteers to engage with the Ventilation Technical Platform to: n develop and contribute to guidance and support of other members;

practice guidance (by other members and through liaison with other institutes/societies);


n share knowledge, and support the continued professional development of members on aspects of specialist healthcare ventilation;


n participate in the development of, and inform policy and strategies for, ventilation standards moving forwards;


n establish and manage a central register of Authorising Engineers (Ventilation), and a separate resource schedule of members who are recognised specialists for advice and support on areas of expertise within the field of healthcare ventilation (e.g. infection control, microbiology, filtration, UCV canopies, LEV systems, fire and smoke


control, etc.). This schedule will provide IHEEM members with an initial point of contact and guidance for specific issues. If you would like to contribute to the Technical Platform, please email office@iheem.org.uk IHEEM adds: “If you have previously expressed an interest in


participating in the VTP, then please be assured that your interest is still valid, and that you will be included in future briefings and activities. If, in addition, you have a specific area of knowledge or interest, then please highlight this in your email to us.” Discussions have also taken place, and are continuing, between the Specialised Ventilation for Healthcare Society (SVHSoc), and IHEEM, ‘to ensure a strong collaborative relationship’.
