Jonathan Baillie, former HEJ Editor, receives Special Achievement Award

Jonathan Baillie was recently recognised with the Special Achievement Award for his exceptional dedication and more than 17 years of service as Editor of Health Estate Journal (HEJ).

Geoff King, Publisher at Step Communications, highlighted the breadth and success of Jonathan’s career and invaluable contribution to both HEJ, and launch of the Design in Mental Health Network publication, The Network. “He always put his maximum effort into everything he wrote and was always keen and eager to help colleagues where he could. He embraced new technologies,

regularly hosting webinars and video interviews at various events, although writing is where he truly excels,” Geoff notes. For nearly two decades,

Jonathan guided HEJ for IHEEM with insight and expertise, making it an essential source of news for the healthcare estates and engineering community. His commitment to documenting sector developments, highlighting innovation, and connecting professionals has left an enduring mark on the profession, and this award celebrates the remarkable impact of his career. “To produce issues of a magazine for 17 years with continued enthusiasm is no mean feat,” Geoff emphasises. “He has established himself as a key figure within the industry and I have no doubt his writing services

will continue to be called upon by companies looking to produce educational and informative content for years to come.” IHEEM extends its heartfelt thanks to Jonathan for his guardianship, and unfailing attentiveness to the magazine, the detailed coverage of an extensive events programme and critical industry developments, as well as wider support for the continued growth and development of the Institute.

His colleagues at Step wish him all the best for the future: “Hopefully now he will have more time to spend following Kent Cricket Club around the country…”

Clean bill of health for medical gas pipe supplier, Lawton Tubes, amid overseas expansion and IHEEM membership

The NHS’s world-leading standards for medical gas copper piping are breathing fresh growth into UK supplier Lawton Tubes, who are new members of IHEEM. The Coventry-based firm, which supplies copper tubing and fittings, has now surpassed exports to more than 40 countries for medical gas copper pipes. Last year alone, Lawton supplied one million metres of copper tube and 900,000 fittings overseas for oxygen pipeline installations in hospitals and private clinics – a five per cent increase on 2023. A key driver behind this success is the NHS’s HTM 02-

01 specification, which sets the benchmark for the cleanliness, design and installation of medical gas copper pipelines. Many international healthcare

systems have adopted the standard, placing Lawton Tubes in a strong position as a trusted supplier. “Copper plays a critical role in transporting oxygen to patients, so it must be degassed, degreased and capped to prevent contamination – a complex process, but one in which we excel,” said Robert Lawton, Marketing and Sales Director at Lawton Tubes. “Lawton Tubes’ copper piping is supplied ready for installation to NHS standards,
