INSTITUTE NEWS

2025 Activity: Strengthening standards

The Institute’s year will shortly conclude, following a period of continued growth in its membership, activities, and member offer, extended coverage of which will be detailed in the soon to be published 2025 Annual Report. In addition to an extended footprint and programme at this year’s Healthcare Estates, IHEEM continues to drive the reach of its existing events programme. 2025 saw a major undertaking in partnering with eight supporting organisations to deliver a stand- out healthcare engineering experience to thousands of young people as part of The Big Bang Fair, with an exceptional uptake also seen for The IHEEM Special Award for Innovation in Wellbeing and Healthcare Engineering as part of The Big Bang Competition. The technical and advisory platform roster continues to expand, with the establishment of the Medical Engineering Technical Platform, and Health & Safety Advisory Platform, as well as a fourth working group driving the digitisation agenda under the Strategic Estates Management Advisory Platform.

Major further developments have been made to the IHEEM

online members’ area and overall user experience, with the newly launched Technical Forums now available in a significant extension of the membership offer. The free- to-use Technical Forums offer all members a platform to ask questions, share thoughts and guidance, and troubleshoot – all within a discipline-specific community.

Mentor and professional registration assessor training sessions were repeated throughout the year, with existing representatives from these groups attending to refresh knowledge and underline the focus on exemplary standards in these areas for the Institute. The publication of a ‘Professional Registration: What To Expect’ Pocket Guide, also demystifies the professional registration process for prospective applicants, as well as outlining the opportunities available to members interested in reviewing or mentoring for accreditation. Chief Executive Officer Tania Davies reflected on IHEEM’s progress across 2025, saying, “I am extremely proud of the Institute’s

A new addition to this year’s closing day of Healthcare Estates saw the IHEEM Branch Awards take place as part of the closing plenary on the second day of the conference.
