A slide shown at the IHEEM North East Branch seminar setting out the expected full scope and workings of Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

6 Health Estate Journal May 2024

On 5 March IHEEM’s North East Branch held the second of its three pre-planned seminars, following the NE Committee meeting in October, at the Seat Unique (Riverside Stadium) Cricket Ground in Chester-le-Street. The technical seminar

focused on PSDS (Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme) funding, and the routes people are taking to secure it. The seminar was timely, as the Government announced further details of round 4 of the funding in February 2024. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) confirmed that Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS), to be delivered by Salix Finance, will be released later in the year, with a total value of £1.17 bn over the next three years. Application details will follow. Dimitra Diamantopoulos and Rob Sinclair from Dalkia Energy Services presented details on the previous PSDS funding rounds, and a walk-through of the application process, with the event including a number of breakout sessions with members to further detail the application process and answer specific queries on the previous three rounds of PSDS funding. Attendees also heard from Dr Clare

Winter, Head of Sustainability at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation

PSDS funding and its benefits highlighted at seminar

Trust, who has been successful in the previous rounds of PSDS. Dr Winter provided an overview of success stories and the journey so far at the Trust, which she explained has seen some considerable achievements in the reduction of its carbon emissions. In addition, she emphasised the need to have appropriately skilled and trained staff in place to ensure that PSDS schemes are correctly managed and delivered.
