IHEEM announces start of 2022 ‘key events’ programme

IHEEM’s deferred ‘Building Sustainable Healthcare Systems’ Conference and Exhibition will now be held from 16-17 May, 2022 at Croke Park, Dublin. The two-day event, sponsored by the Carbon Energy Fund and SDCL, brings together the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on each region respectively across the two days. Speakers will include Ministers for Health, Executive Officers from the HSE, and the National Lead for Sustainability. There will also be a Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on the evening of 16 May.

IHEEM has also partnered with

Surrey Air Sentry to deliver the annual Authorising Engineers Conference on 6 July 2022 at Epsom Racecourse in Surrey. The conference theme is ‘Making the Standard’, with the programme developed by the Institute’s Specialist Technical Platforms. Alongside discipline-specific update workshops, the programme will cover many important topics, including how national and international standards evolve, and what AEs can do to influence them; a debate on the appointment of Accountable Persons (APs), and whether the process requires regulation/registration; independence in the role of an Authorising Engineer, and apprenticeship and mentoring. There will also be a panel discussion on sustainability and maintaining standards. This promises to be an interesting and lively event for all Authorising Engineers,

regardless of technical specialism. Pete Sellars, CEO of IHEEM, said: “I am pleased we can now start to plan a return to in-person events. Many of our members have told us that they are looking forward to having the opportunity to once again interact and network in person, and to feel confident to re-engage and attend live conferences and events. Both conferences are being hosted in amazing locations, and tickets are available to IHEEM members for only £50 a day (+ VAT). I believe this offers amazing value, and hope it will enable more of our members to attend. I would also like to thank our Company Affiliates for their ongoing support to these events,

New Finance Officer at Head Office

IHEEM’s new Finance Officer, Nicola (Nikki) Tyler, who started work at Head Office just before Christmas, will support the Institute’s COO, Tania Davies, and look to assist with a range of finance and membership matters. The holder of a BTEC in Business and

Finance from South Downs College in Waterlooville, prior to joining IHEEM she held Finance Manager, credit operation and control, and other finance and account-related positions with organisations including Capital Radio (locally in Fareham), automotive finance group, The Harbour Group and Southern Co-operative Dairies. She explained: “Most recently, I worked one day a week as the Finance Manager for a children’s nursery. I enjoyed the job, but was keen to secure a role that was still part-time but entailed more hours. At IHEEM I will be working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and

Thursdays, both with Tania on general accounting and financial activities, and assisting members wherever I can – for instance dealing with membership renewals, queries over fees, and on anything else I can help members with. “I enjoy dealing with

people, both by phone and face-to-face, and while I am on a learning curve in having no previous experience of the sector IHEEM operates in, my husband is a Senior Authorised Person (Electrical), so I have more than a passing interest in engineering. I also served as a school Governor

for seven years earlier in my career.” Originally from the Darlington area,

Nicola moved down south aged 11 when her father’s job was re-located to Havant in Hampshire. She now lives on Hayling Island, near Portsmouth, with her husband, 16-year-old daughter, and 17-year-old son. Outside work she enjoys walking – she tries to cover at least 25 miles per week to keep fit, and swimming. She added: “My father owned a number of leisure centres when I was growing up, so I did plenty of swimming and enjoyed it from a young age, and I trained as a lifeguard at 16 for a summer job.”

both through their sponsorship, and their involvement in our exhibitions. They have, and will continue to, play a vital part in the success of our events programme.” Details of both events – including on

how to book tickets – are live on the IHEEM website. Pete Sellars added: “Places are limited, so I would encourage everyone to book their tickets now, and I look forward to meeting many of you in person over the coming months.” Website links to the two events are: https://www.iheem.org.uk/events/ authorising-engineers-conference-2022 https://www.iheem.org.uk/events/ iheem-conference-and-exhibition/
