PROCUREMENT

dedicated staff to take time away from the frontline of the hospital. GHX’s solution was used to streamline and automate the management of inventory and procurement within the hospital. When the NHS Louisa Jordan was first set up, it utilised a large central store of materials for treating COVID patients – from specialist PPE to everyday ward items such as cannulas and bedding. The solution was used to set up and manage the main store, while enabling an auto-replenishment programme for the smaller ward level stores, ensuring that these wards were never short of critical PPE and other medical stock. Once the NHS Louisa Jordan’s main purpose changed from COVID patient centre to outpatient support, GHX’s solution was able to support wards as they transitioned away from COVID- focussed operations. With procurement and stock needs changing, the solution was able to quickly and efficiently adjust supply levels and raise new requisition orders to reflect the new requirements of the NHS Louisa Jordan. When the hospital changed purpose again in early 2021 to become a mass vaccination centre, the GHX digital solution was again able to support staff by routing the correct PPE and equipment to nurses distributing the vaccine.

James Minards

As Country Sales manager for the UK and Ireland at GHX, James Minards brings his extensive knowledge of the technology and market to help ensure that healthcare providers have the right solutions to meet their current and future business needs. A champion of the GS1 and Scan4Safety programme, he has helped deliver the processes and systems which improve both patient safety and drive business efficiencies.

He started his career ‘supplier side’ working on stock and manufacturing requirements for Johnson & Johnson Orthopaedics, before a move to Oracle.

There he worked as an eProcurement specialist managing implementations, before moving to the US for a role in product development. Prior to joining GHX, he worked for a range of consultancy firms, and was responsible for the development of the NHS Shared Business Services procurement platform.

“We had to change the way we were

working almost daily as the pandemic situation evolved, which in turn required an inventory management system that could adapt to any situation,” said John Robertson, Technology Services Enhancement analyst for NHS Scotland’s Distribution Centre. “The GHX solution

took away a lot of the tough work required to set up an efficient inventory management system at the Louisa Jordan, a task we would have really struggled with. Without this technology and the first-class support from GHX to help us through the situation, it would have been a nightmare.”
