I’m surprised more parallels haven’t been drawn between the ICE show and the Olympics. Both events draw international competitors from around the world to a single stage in which they celebrate the performance and achievements of all the multi-disciplines under a single united banner. And, exactly like the Olympics, the organisers have been the only ones convinced that it’s going ahead as planned.


As the odds continue to lengthen on the likelihood of an ICE show taking place this summer, the prospect for suppliers, game developers, manufacturers and distributors of an exhibitionless first half of 2021 is looking all too real. It’s increasingly apparent that the loss the ICE show in February this year is an irreplaceable once-a-year event that will wound the gaming industry during a period of extreme uncertainty.


What’s obvious is that the industry can’t stand still waiting for Covid to be vanquished by the vaccines and has to continue to match pace with innovations across all sectors, from online and mobile gaming, sport betting and land-based retail. ICE moving dates into the summer was a major blow - it’s potential shift to 2021 is downright scary.

Much like the Olympics , developers and innovators have prepared themselves to peak at just the right time. Game showcases have been prepared months in advance to deliver a spectacle at ICE designed to set the roadmap and trajectory for the year ahead. Skipping ICE in 2021 isn’t just missing a trade event amongst many, many others. It’s the derailing of plans that have been in motion since the last ICE. The hole left is unskippable. Everyone is going to fall in.


Our games showcase is an opportunity for all the developers peaking in February to have a place to exhibit their games in a single space. We’ve not sought to exclude anyone, nor is this an exhaustive list of everything you would have seen at ICE. Instead, it’s a celebration of the amazing talent in the gaming and sports betting industries that have continued to produce world-class products, games and innovations while juggling being Work From Home parents, collaborating solely via Zoom and Teams, dislocated from colleagues and workmates, and unable to celebrate their achievements in all the usual ways.


ICE is unmissable. It is unskippable. But I’d like to thank all the contributors to this showcase for helping to make its absence a bit more bearable.
