First AeoniQ plant to be built at Altri’s pulp mill in Portugal

Portuguese pulp producer Altri is to acquire a majority stake in AeoniQ, a cleantech spin-off of HeiQ Materials based in Switzerland which claims to have developed the world’s first climate-positive, biodegradable cellulosic filament yarn engineered to replace polyester and nylon. The joint venture will be

branded AeoniQ, and aims to benefit from vertical integra- tion of eucalyptus-based pulp to finished yarn, later expand- ing to incorporate recycled feedstocks such as cotton textiles and agricultural waste, as well as bacterial cellulose derived from food waste. The AeoniQ platform

ultimately hopes to disrupt the global textile industry by offering a fully circular, plastic-free alternative that mirrors the performance of synthetic fibres but in a more

sustainable and environmental- ly-friendly way. “Altri’s investment trans-

forms AeoniQ from a market- proven innovation into a full-scale global production platform,” said Carlo Centonze, CEO of HeiQ. “Together, we are offering a market-ready solution to one of the planet’s most polluting industries, textiles. The joint venture brings together Altri’s industrial expertise and HeiQ’s innovation prowess to deliver a European-made,

sustainable, high performance and plastic-free textile.” As part of the agreement,

the first AeoniQ plant will be constructed at Altri’s Caima pulp mill in Portugal. Construc- tion is expected to begin in 2026, with an initial capacity of 1,750 tonnes/yr. Following on from existing pilot lines in Austria, a pre-industrial plant will be launched in early 2026 to accelerate prototyping, brand partnerships, and capsule collections.

German fashion brand Hugo Boss and technical garment maker MAS Holdings are investors in the AeoniQ project, while The Lycra Company has acquired exclusive distribution rights. Additional development partners include Riopele, Impetus, Lameirinho, Beste, Feinjersey, Taiana, Dolinschek, Aunde Group, Amann and Strahle + Hess. •www.altri.ptwww.heiq.com •www.heiq-aeoniq.com

Recover launches range of recycled cotton fabrics

Materials science company Recover is launching Recover Fabrics, a range of high-quality, low-impact fabrics made with its proprietary recycled cotton fibre and designed to be readily accessible to brands of all sizes. The company says the product line was developed to help brands accelerate their transition to more sustainable products without compromising on quality, scalability, or speed. “Recover Fabrics is not just another product launch; it’s about helping brands make sustainability the easy choice without compro- mising on quality,” said Anders Sjöblom, CEO of Recover. “For example, we recently developed a high-end tailored suit with dramatically lower carbon and water use, in a quality built to last for years. That’s the kind of innovation this platform will deliver at scale.” The line introduces over 50 fabrics across four

curated collections, ranging from everyday essentials to refined, high-end textiles. Each fabric combines Recover’s recycled cotton fibres with advanced textile innovation to

achieve a level of quality the company says has not been seen before in recycled cotton-to-cotton fabrics. • https://recoverfiber.com
