Right: PureCycle and IPL Schoeller have devel- oped SnapPack Square EVO containers, incorporating 20% of PureFive recycled PP

SnapPack Square EVO, incorporating 20% of PureFive rPP in every unit, giving brand owners a shelf-ready path to meet New Jersey’s recycled content mandate and get ahead of upcom- ing EPR regulations. The recycled PP, commercial-

ized as PureFive, is obtained through a patented dissolution process and is APR certified for post-consumer recycled content. The recycled resin has virgin-like properties. The launch comes as retailers and brand owners in the US face a growing patchwork of packaging regulations. New Jersey’s Recycled Content Law currently requires rigid plastic packaging to contain a minimum of 10% post-consumer recy- cled content, a threshold that rises to 20% and will include food packaging by 2027 and continues climbing to 50% by 2036. EPR laws in California, Oregon and other states will impose similar source reduction and recyclability requirements between 2027 and 2032, with the first deadlines arriving as soon as 2027. SnapPack Square EVO is intended to give brand owners and producers a ready path to compliance and a head start on meeting those requirements, without waiting on a custom qualification process. Amcor has achieved UN certification for its industrial containers in the sizes 5.5 L and 5.8 L containing up to 50% of PCR. When combined with the 40 µ thick internal LDPE bag stipulated for the certification, the containers offer a high-quality solution for the safe storage and transportation of solid and powdered hazardous goods in markets such as chemicals, medical waste and automotive. In addition to satisfying consumer and customer demands for more sustainable packaging solu- tions, the availability of 50% PCR content will also help companies to meet current and impending EU and national packaging legislation. The Pamplona Factory, where the containers are

produced, has RecyClass certification, validating claims around recyclability and the incorporation of recycled materials for its customers. “While companies naturally wish to adopt more sustain- able packaging solutions, it is equally important to maintain a container’s overall performance, and this is especially critical for hazardous goods. Our UN containers with PCR content continue to offer optimal security and reliability, meeting the strict demands of the UN approval procedures,” said Ignacio Igea, Sales Director Industrial, Spain, Portugal & Italy for Amcor Rigid Packaging Solu- tions International.

Decontamination Last June, Coperion announced that it has re- ceived a Letter of No Objection (LNO) from the FDA for its HDPE and PP recycling technology. Coperion uses the combination of twin-screw extruders and EcoFresh silo degassing, and it can deliver a production capacity of up to 6,000 kg/h with the combination of these technologies; even low residence times are enough to reliably remove low-volatile migratory substances. The raw material consists of used HDPE beverage bottles and their caps. The material stream for rPP is sourced from vegetable trays, packaging and yogurt containers, all applications used for food contact. “The FDA’s LNO means that rHDPE and rPP manufactured with our technologies can be used for new food packaging in proportions up to 100%,” said Stefan Lachenmayer, Global Commer- cial Director Recycling at Coperion. “As a result, we provide recyclers the assurance that our energy- efficient mechanical recycling process manufac- tures high-quality recyclate. These include, for example, packaging for high-temperature, heat- sterilized, pasteurized or frozen products.” The material is fed into the twin extruder using
