Wash cycle: equipment firms go with global flow
Improving the quality of recycled plastics is driving advancements in the efficiency and accuracy of washing equipment. maker Krones has created Krones Recycling, an independent subsidiary company that will take over all activities related to plastics recycling, including its washing technology. The new com- pany, which commenced business operations on 1 July, has been formed in response to the growing significance of the recycling sector, increasing demand worldwide for recycled plastics and the role Krones says the new company will play in achieving its sustainability goals. Krones Recycling will continue to conduct intensive research into new innovations at its in-house Recycling Technology Centre, where tests on the recyclability of various plastics, including adhesives and colours can be carried out under

real conditions on behalf of customers. Krones Recycling will offer the company’s
MetaPure W series of washing modules in configu- rations for PET or polyolefin washing, which can help in the processing of recycled material into food-grade material, avoiding downcycling. Features of the MetaPure W-PET washing module for waste PET include gentle treatment of the material as the unit operates with slow rotation, reliable removal of dirt, organic residues and adhesives using a caustic washer, and a multi-stage post washer. A design and automatic waste management system of the unit results in less cleaning and more safety for line operators, the company said. The automatic dosing equipment ensures a constant concentration and low con- sumption of caustic material, additives and defoamers. A float-sink separation system and sifter offer reliable removal of caps and labels. Krones Recycling said the MetaPure W-PET unit
can process from 1,000 to 6,000 kg/hr. Several modules can be combined with each other in order
