Polyplastics boosts capacity at three polymer production plants

Polyplastics announced new capacity expansions for its COC, POM and LCP materials at K2025. Construction of a new COC

production facility in Leuna, Germany is nearly complete, with commercial start-up of the 25,000-tonnes/year plant expected by the second quarter of 2026. It will more than double the company’s output and meet rising demand for its Topas COC products. It will be run by local subsidiary Topas Advanced Polymers. “This expansion is a major step

forward in the long-term growth track of Topas COC,” said Hidekazu Kitayama, managing director of Polyplastics Europe. “The new plant will continue to position us as a reliable supplier for the packaging and healthcare sectors.” The Leuna facility is built on a 30,000 sq m site which provides enough space for future expansion. Initially, it will produce several low-Tg grades for supply to all global regions. The new capacity will help meet increased demand for applications such as insulin pumps and diagnostic components.

Polyplastics has expanded capacity at COC, POM and LCP plants

Polyplastics also expects to start running its Duracon POM plant – in Nantong, China – at its full annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes from March 2026. Demand for the material is currently satisfied by deliveries from Malaysia and the Fuji plant in Japan. To support China’s annual growth

rate of 3-4%, plans for a Phase 2 expansion are underway, to further increase local production. In 2027, Phase 2 of the Nantong plant – adding 60,000 tonnes/year – is scheduled to begin, bringing total annual POM production capacity in China to

150,000 tonnes. Malaysia-produced POM,

previously supplied to China, will then be redirected to markets in India, ASEAN and the West. Finally, a new Laperos LCP plant with a 5,000 tonnes/year capacity began operations in Taiwan in February 2025. Polyplastics plans to increase LCP sales volume by around 15% in 2026 – with the plant scheduled to reach full operation in the first quarter. This is expected to cut lead times and inventory levels. www.polyplastics-global.com
