3D PRINTING | MATERIALS

In addition, the wads are denser than water, so will sink – to reduce the possibility of harmful interactions with wildlife. Andrew Thomas, founder of Eco Shot, added:

“The PHA filament allowed us to conduct rapid prototyping for our designs, allowing us to increase our offerings and meet the needs of a broader range of hunting activities.”

Micro components In some cases, additive manufacturing can even replace micro injection moulding, for production of very tiny parts or mould features. US-based Accumold, which has been involved in

micro injection moulding for nearly 40 years, recently invested in two Tera 250vx Micro-AM 3D systems from Nano Dimension. This was driven by the need to cut product development time – as traditional micro moulding includes time-consum- ing steps such as mould design and production, CAM programming and CNC set up. The new system overcomes these problems. It has a build volume of 50 x 50 x 100mm and builds parts in 1-10 micron layers. It is used to print micro-sized prototype parts and injection moulds

– decreasing time-to-market for customers while allowing the creation of parts with geometric complexity – which is impossible using traditional technologies. Micron-level detail can be achieved without having to fabricate moulds, meaning that intricate, geometrically complex parts can be produced in hours.
