NEWS Tech centre adds huge machine
Engel has expanded its technical centre in St Valentin, Austria with one of the largest injection mould- ing machines in its standard portfolio.
It says the Duo 5500 combi M – with a clamping force of 55,000 kN – is the world’s largest technical centre machine. Engel will use it to enable technolo- gies and components in new dimensions, in collabo- ration with customers and partners. It accommodates moulds weighing up to 150 tonnes, with possible shot weights up to 42kg. The installation means the machine – which was developed in part to meet the automotive industry’s move towards larger plastic components – is now available for customer trials.

parts have often been made using processes other than injection moulding, which brings significant limitations. Adding the Duo 5500 combi M to its technical centre offers more possibili- ties for part and technology development, says Engel.
