Food-grade recycling plant opens in UK
Nextek and Coveris have opened a demonstration plant for food-grade recycling in the UK. The COtooClean plant is now fully
operational, and located at Coveris’ ReCover site in Lincolnshire, UK. The plant uses a new purification technol- ogy to convert post-consumer polyolefin (PE and PP) film waste into recycled resin suitable for food-grade applications. Developed by Nextek and scaled up with Coveris, CO- tooClean addresses the issue of embedded contaminants in plastic films. Using supercritical CO2 extrac- tion, it penetrates deep into the polymer structure to remove oils, odours and legacy substances that conventional mechanical recycling cannot fully eliminate.
The technology will help to “unlock
higher-quality recycled materials and enable true circularity for flexible films” said Edward Kosior, founder of Nextek. The plant, built with support from Alliance to End Plastic Waste, enables development of larger-scale opera- tional experience and the generation of the data needed for European regulatory approval – while showing scalability and commercial viability. Aimplas revenue aiming high
Aimplas, the Plastics Technology Centre, closed 2025 with total rev- enues of €26.7m, representing a growth of more than 10%. During that time it worked with
more than 3,500 client companies and 900 member companies to generate a total return of €87.5m and create savings of €770,000 thanks to
www.filmandsheet.com membership benefits. R&D&I activity accounted for 70%
of the revenue, with 653 partner companies participating in this activity and 34% of the projects having an international scope.
