Expansion plan US machinery manufacturer Davis-Standard has expanded its main facility in Pawcatuck, Connecticut in order to boost production of multi-layer blown film dies. The company is adding 15,000 sq ft of manufacturing
space and more than 30 jobs in total. Davis-Standard is also moving all blown film manufacturing for its Gloucester Engineering product line – which it acquired recently – to the facility. “This expansion is a necessity for our business,” said Jim Murphy, president and CEO. Bringing Gloucester’s manufacturing capabilities to the Connecticut site will help to integrate the two technologies, he said – adding that Davis-Standard was now the largest manufacturer of seven- to 11-layer blown film dies. Across the Atlantic, the company has added blown
film die rebuild and cleaning services at its facility in Brierley Hill in the UK. The new services, which began in August last year, will apply to all blown film dies from
cleaning of blown film dies as well as the disassembly and assembly of various key components,” said Mark Woodgate, managing director of Davis-Standard Limited. “Our component inspection programme ensures customers are immediately aware of any parts that may require refinishing or replacement. This can result in great cost savings when compared to purchas- ing a new die. Having a die professionally rebuilt by the original equipment manufacturer – using certified replacement parts – also brings a level of assurance that others cannot provide.” The rebuild services will be located within a
dedicated area of the company’s facility, and staffed by experienced technicians. Support is available both on- and off-site to ensure customer needs are addressed immediately. The team also offers part replacement and support,
complete rebuilds for gearboxes and extruders, as well as control upgrades and drive conversions.
X hits the spot Hosokawa Alpine says that its X-Die technology can deliver a competitive advantage in the production of blown films. The X-Die’s spiral distributors and pre-distribution
were designed and optimised to produce thermal homogeneity of the melt with minimal residence time, it says.
By eliminating visual port lines from the film, it
improves both optical properties and delivers good film thickness tolerances – even for individual layers. X-Dies
