build-up and predictable slip and coefficient of friction properties. It also delivers melt fracture clearing and film optics comparable to fluoropolymer-based PPA technologies. “This underscores Nova’s focus on solving critical challenges for our customers through continuous innovation,” said Owen Lightbody, leader of technical services at Nova. PPAs mitigate melt
fracture and to prevent material buildup on die-lips during extrusion processes. The new PPA
is compatible with existing resin formulations, enabling high-quality film
structures that are free from fluoropolymers. Nova says it has obtained broad regulatory
approvals for the new technology. “Our breakthrough
NF-PPA sets a new standard for high-performance, fluoropolymer-free PE that will allow our customers to meet market demands,” said Lightbody. Nine grades of PE with the new NF-PPA are currently available, for use across blown film applications including food packaging, e-commerce, and heavy- duty sacks.
Technology extension Borealis unveiled its new Borstar Nextension polyethylene (PE) technology at K2025, calling it a “leap forward in polyolefin innovation”. It says that proprietary single-site catalysts help create PE grades with

superior toughness, sealing performance and processability – enabling downgauging and better cost efficiency. The materials can be used to create mono-material packaging to replace multi-material equivalents. The company has
introduced two development materials: one with twice the toughness of first-generation metallocene
PE materials, which is suitable for form, fill & seal (FFS) and frozen food packaging; and a second that reduces sealing initiation temperature by over 15%, enabling faster packaging speeds and making it suitable for lamination, FFS and food packaging. Borealis is investing €49 million to scale up Nextension PP production at
its site in Burghausen, Germany. Separately, Borealis and
Borouge have launched Recleo mechanically recycled polymers for a range of polyolefin applications. Recleo uses both post-industrial (PIR) and post-consumer (PCR) recyclates and compounds. The brand complements the Borcycle M portfolio of mechanically recycled
