US corrugated pipe maker Fratco has broken ground on a new production facility in Fort Payne, Alabama – which will create 50-60 new jobs. The 42,000 sq ft facility will initially produce single- and double-wall corru- gated pipe in diameters from 3 to 18in, with plans to expand up to 48in. https://fratco.com

Supreme grows volumes and sales as profits dip

India-based plastic products manufacturer Supreme Industries reported a dip in half-year profits, despite a small rise in turnover. The company said sales

grew 2% to R50 billion (US$564 million), on the back of an 8% increase in volume (to 338,000 tonnes). However, profit (EBITDA) shrank 13% to around R6bn (US$70m).

In plastic pipe – its main business – volumes grew 11% though sales dipped by nearly 3% and profits by 26%. “The plastics pipe

business in agricultural appli- cations was affected by the early arrival of the monsoon,” said MP Taparia, managing director of Supreme. “The rains remained active for an extended period which resulted in severe degrowth,” he added. In addition, central and

state governments also allocated less money for infrastructure projects, he said. Taparia expects demand

from the agriculture segment to rebound in second half of this year. “We maintain our volume

growth target of 15-17% in the plastic pipe segment for current year,” according to Taparia. In August, the company

acquired Wavin’s plastic pipe business in India, which includes three manufactur- ing units with a total capacity of 71,000 tonnes/year. The purchase price was

around R3bn (US$33m), according to the company’s accounts.

It is also close to begin

operating a new window profile production facility in December 2025. www.supreme.co.in
