PROCESSING | CORRUGATED PIPE
pipe with a high percentage of PCR, we saw processing issues like higher extruder torque,” said Jake Colclasure, chief operating officer at Timewell. “Using GreenMantra’s sustainable additives, we were able to increase line speeds at the same fixed costs, including energy costs.” By providing an alternative to fossil-based additives, GreenMantra products help Timewell decrease the carbon footprint of its pipe. Samples of Timewell’s HDPE drainage pipe made this way were seen at last year’s NPE. Its dual-wall corru- gated stormwater pipe contains up to 50% recy- cled content, while its single-wall, corrugated agricultural drainage pipe uses around 40%.
Fast runner ITIB Machinery says that its redesigned FV32/112HP corrugator runs at 80 metres per minute – enough to meet the demands of PVC, PP and PE conduit production. It produces pipe from 10mm internal diameter to 32mm outside diameter. The chain of each mould half is moved by
separate gears, which is driven by a single brush- less motor with a gearbox and torque limiter. This
prevents it from damaging the moulds in case of a jam. The optimised length of the forming channel and the cooling on all four sides of the moulds are essential keys to making the production run faster and more efficiently. Openable inlet covers give an easy access to the closing channel in case of a material jam, which reduces downtime on the extrusion line. The optimised path of the moulds in the closing section allows a reduced length of the extrusion die. This decreases the head pressure, allowing full exploitation of the machine’s high cooling capacity. Extra central free running gears, along with independently controlled cooling and right/left channel temperature settings, prevent chain thermal expansion issues.
