PROCESSING | CORRUGATED PIPE

Right:

Bausano’s Eon conical twin-screw extruders are aimed at rigid corrugated PVC pipe

design life. Delivering the pipe as needed saved the contractor time, reduced labour and minimised the need for heavy equipment.

Flexible line Bausano says that its Eon range of conical twin-screw extruders was developed to handle two very different types of production – rigid corrugated PVC pipe and PVC profiles. The machines are engi-

neered to ensure high melt quality, stable output and good surface finish – even with recycled or mineral-filled compounds, says Bausano. “This dedicated line is tailored to meet the technical needs of both production types,” said Massimiliano Fenili, technical sales manager at Bausano.

While corrugated pipe extrusion needs constant

pressure, perfect fusion and low scrap rates, profile production requires continuous extrusion, a good surface finish and compatibility with multiple formulations. For PVC corrugated pipe, Eon machines have an

output of 50-400 kg/h, which is ideal for direct coupling to the corrugator. It also has stable thrust – even with highly mineral-filled formulations – and optimised fusion, to avoid defects during cross- section transitions. The company currently offers three models: Eon 53 (23 kW), with a 50-150 kg/h output for pipe; Eon 63 (36 kW), with a 50-270 kg/h output; and Eon 80 (69 kW), with 150-400 kg/h. Each model is equipped with: nitrided screws

and barrel, with bimetallic options available; dry vacuum system, induction heating, and parallel shaft gearbox with oil cooler; IoT-ready control for real-time monitoring and energy optimisation; and a modular machine frame for fast configuration and integration.

Germany-based machinery manufacturer Unicor is expanding capacity in Hassfurt. It carried out a groundbreaking ceremony last

year – performed by children of Unicor employees – for a new production hall in the Schlettach II development area around 1km from its headquar- ters. On completion this year, it will cover 24,300 sq m, including 7,000 sq m of production space and 1,800 sq m of office space. “This project will not help us optimise our

production processes, reduce internal logistics costs by up to 70% and improve working condi- tions for our employees,” said the company.

Raising recyclate Timewell Drainage Products has used a variety of additives from GreenMantra Technologies to help it incorporate recycled HDPE into its stormwater and agricultural drainage pipe. It has used Ceranovus PN speciality polymer additives as processing aids – made from waste plastic using a patented molecular recycling process – to raise output of its pipe. The additives act as melt flow modifiers to help

Timewell smooth out processing inconsistencies resulting from variability in post-consumer and post-industrial recyclate (PCR/PIR). They also help Timewell to increase production line speed by up to 25% without raising energy use and costs. “When we began producing HDPE stormwater

ing weld lines increases the finished product’s overall strength, it says. Features of the 400 series – which includes the 420, 423, 432 and 434 models – are spiderless inline, fixed or adjustable centre, built-in cartridge heaters, expandable to multi- layer, heated core pin and one-piece body/ flow diverter. Because there are no spider lines, there is

room for more air and no cold legs.

Most products should be run fixed, says Guill. Users can change only one component and become fully adjustable. The cartridge heaters offer even heat for better flow and banishes cold spots. Because it is expandable to multi-layer, the crossheads run a variety of products. The heated core pin and one-piece body/flow diverter lead to better temperature control and easy cleaning- quick changer, respectively.
