Firstly, the machine now has stable, efficient
heating thanks to modern heating cartridges. In addition, intensive cooling has been significantly improved, which has raised the efficiency of the whole process. Improved process control has boosted throughput, which has increased the customer’s production capacity. “It is noteworthy that existing components – such as the drive, dosing and downstream equipment – were used during the modernisation,” said the company. “This not only saved resources, but also enabled a more cost-effective operation.”
Machine investment German Twinscrews (GTS), a specialist in screws and barrels, recently installed three new machines – at the same time as moving to a new facility. The new machines – a table boring mill, an
external cylindrical grinding machine and an NC-controlled lathe – help to strengthen its production capabilities, said the company. “With these investments, we are well-equipped to meet the increasing demands of our customers in plastic processing,” it said. The table boring mill weighs around 85 tonnes.
It has a travel range of X = 5m, Y = 3m and Z = 2m. Despite challenges posed by a limited ceiling height, it was installed within two weeks. With a table load capacity of 12 tonnes, it will play a key role in production. It is equipped with CNC control, a 360° rotating Y-axis, and a tool changer. The external cylindrical grinding machine can
process products up to 5m long, weighing 17 tonnes. It is designed to process precise external diameters. The third machine, an NC-controlled lathe, weighs 20 tonnes and is critical to the GTS manu- facturing process. It can process components up to 10m in length.
Spare parts US-based Entek has formed a new business unit that will manufacture and sell replacement wear parts – including screws and barrels – for all brands of twin-screw extruders. “This is an important step for us, and for twin-
screw extruder users worldwide,” said Kim Medford, president of Entek. “We understand this market and plan to become the number one manufacturer and supplier of replacement wear parts.” The creation of the new division follows the opening of Entek’s new 98,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Henderson, Nevada. Entek has invested US$15 million and will hire more than

100 new employees to staff the new facility. It will be used for increased production of wear parts, twin-screw extruders and materials handling equipment.
With the new facility up and running, Entek has
created the new division for replacement of wear parts.
Linda Campbell, VP of extrusion sales at Entek,
added: “We have built replacement wear parts for many years and recognised the need to devote more resources to this part of our business. We intend to support growth with existing customers, while expanding our parts business.” The company has named Tammy Straw as
director of the new division, while Kelsey Dennis will be responsible for sales. Straw says Entek’s value proposition is its ability to provide wear parts quickly. “Though global supply chain disruptions have
eased recently, it’s not unusual for companies to up to six months for replacement screws and barrels,” she said. “We know these are unacceptable lead times and we are committed to changing that.” The facility currently has two shifts fully staffed
and operating, making screw inventory and stocking many sizes for both Entek and non-Entek twin-screw extruders. Lead times are four weeks – if not on the shelf – with the aim of a two-week lead time for new screw production.
