LK Pex, founded in 1998, is part of the larger LK Group that began life in 1910. The Swedish family-owned company manufactures PEX-a and PE-RT pipes, as well as pipe-in-pipe products that are suitable for heating and tap water systems.

The company produces PEX-a and PE-RT pipes, as well as pipe-in-pipe products. Its PEX-a pipes are for both heating and drinking water. It has in-house expertise in pipe processing, crosslinking technology and tooling design. These pipes – which are crosslinked by peroxide – are made in a one-step process with extrusion followed by shortwave infrared-initiated crosslinking – plus optional extrusion of oxygen barrier layers for pipes used in heating systems. They are available in sizes of 8-110mm. PE-RT pipes are designed for use in floor heating but can be used in other applications such as snow-melting systems. They are five-layer constructions with an embedded oxygen barrier for optimal performance, available in dimensions of 16-25mm.

Factory location:

The company’s single production facility is in Ulricehamn, Sweden. Here, it runs 14 production lines – working five shifts around the clock – and makes “millions of metres” of pipe each year. It recently initiated a project to increase circularity by developing a way to recycle PEX scrap. While PEX is commonly used in the plumbing industry, it is considered difficult to recycle. Tests are ongoing to determine which products are best suited for the recycled material.
