Raising the BAR for Extruded Pipelines
Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe (RTP) and Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) are displaying substantial growth by elevating extruded pipe to provide several significant advantag- es. RTP pipelines are rapidly replacing steel pipelines in a variety of industry sectors such as the transportation of hydrogen, water, oil and gas. Other applications include district heating via a network of insulated pipes, bringing cost effective innovative en- ergy solutions to the doorstep of the next generation. RTP is revolutionising these industries,
outperforming steel pipes in strength- to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, flexibility and cost. It is capable of withstanding high pressures and tem- peratures making it ideal for oil and gas pipelines, chemical transportation, and offshore applications. Individual RTP pipe lengths can extend for hun- dreds of metres, drastically cutting the number of inline joints, on-site welding. In addition, by eliminating corrosion, RTP pipelines offer much lower overall service life costs with the added benefit of being more environmentally friendly. Total life of pipeline costs can be reduced by as much as 50% in some applications. Ridgway Machines are a world leading engineering organisation addressing the global requirement for precision wrapping machinery for the manufacture of RTP.
Ridgway design and manufacture machinery to accurately apply the reinforcement layers using materials such as aramid, glass or carbon fibre which are thermally bonded onto polymer liner pipes. Some pipe de- signs do not require bonding enabling faster production. World leading manufacturers such
as Strohm & Baker Hughes already produce RTP/TCP, pipes for offshore and onshore applications. Ridgway have created a range of machinery for global customers for both offshore and onshore projects.
In addition to RTP and TCP wrapping machines, Ridgway also offer caterpil- lars, bonding systems and reel stands. Quality assurance through pre- cision tape tension control and real time data capture provides the high- est quality and world class products to Ridgway’s customers. The addition of RTP machinery into an extrusion company would enable the compa- ny to offer high performance pipeline solutions for their customers. RTP is the future, playing a signifi-
cant role in achieving global sustain- ability goals.
