EXTRUDER OF THE MONTH
Luna Plast Head office:
Ownership: Profile:
Milnik, Czech Republic
Managing director: Petr Novotný Founded:
1994 Private
Luna Plast, founded in 1994, began life as a manufacturer of protective polyethylene (PE) pipes for cables and optical cables. Now, the company offers a wider portfolio, with production focused mainly on PE pressure pipes for water, sewerage, gas and irrigation, geothermal probes, threaded PE pipes for non- pressure applications and PE fittings for pipe joining.
Product lines:
The company’s main markets are outdoor water, gas and sewerage, as well as optical cable storage and utilities. Its PE drinking and service water pipes are smooth and uncoated, and supplied in coils of 50, 100 or 200m, or in rods of 6m or 12m in length. Sewer pipes – supplied in black with brown stripes – have a maximum nominal pressure of PN7.5 to PN16, depending on the material used. Single-layer gas pipes are made from PE100 or PE100RC material for pressurised distribution. The company also produces perforated plastic pipes, which are used to stabilise boreholes or construction work, pump water from drilled wells, monitor groundwater levels and remediate soil pollution.
Factory location:
The company has a single manufacturing location in Melnik, around 30km north of the Czech capital, Prague. It says that it “operates state-of-the-art equipment” – and recently took delivery of a multi-layer pipe extrusion line from Tecnomatic of Italy. The new line allows it to make pipe up to 1200mm in diameter – with up to three layers – for pressure applications. It incorporates a single-screw extruder for the main layer, plus two 60mm co-extruders.
