Better cutting UK-based Gillard Cutting introduced its new Servo-Torq Slice-Cut free-standing rotary cutter at K2022 last year. The company says it is designed to cut larger- sized rigid plastic extrusions more cleanly. There are two models, which cut pipes with diameters of 57-150mm, and 90-225mm. A large, curved blade – which moves very quickly – helps to improve the cut finish. The blade can be heated or lubricated if required. The ultra-thin blade is rotated at high speed through 360°. During part of this rotation the blade slices through the extrudate. Inlet and outlet bushes guide the blade and the extrudate during cutting. The mechanical assembly of the
cutter drive is very robust. The servo motor is linked to the cutter knife shaft by a
synchronous timing belt drive. The knife blade is held onto the end of the shaft by a lightweight aluminium holder. The knife blade area is easily accessed by opening the interlocked cutter lid. A colour touch-screen control panel is used to enter the cut length and blade speed. The machine conforms with the latest CE standards.
