WKT, founded in 1954 by Horst Zimmermann, began making PVC pipes for the coal and salt mining industries. In the intervening 60 years, the company has diversified into pipes for a range of applications, including infrastructure (for water, waste water and gas) and industrial pipe in a range of materials including PVC, HDPE and PVDF.
Product lines:
The company supplies infrastructure pipes for four purposes: drinking water; gas; waste water; and cable protection. Those in the first three categories are typically made from PE100 RC material. Those for drinking water are also available with a friction-locked plug-in sleeve. Cable protection pipe are made from HDPE. Pressure pipes for industrial applications are made from PE100 RC, PVC or C-PVC, while WKT also supplies ventilation pipe. The company also provides specialised products to order – such as with customised colours, dimensions or density. For instance, pipe can be produced with a designated RAL colour, or with a special surface treatment.
Factory location:
WKT makes all its products at its plant in Sprockhövel. Last year, it entered an agreement with another plastic pipe manufacturer, Star Piping Systems, to develop, produce and market pipes, fittings and joining techniques. Under the agreement, a new extrusion line was installed at Sprockhövel to make PE100 and PE100 RC pipes up to 630mm in diameter.
