PPI’s updated guide for HDPE conduit
The US-based Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) has published an updated model specification for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit. PPI says that, while HDPE conduit and pressure pipe specifications may appear similar, there are technical differences that are critical to achieving the intended performance of products in specific applications. “Industry standards for conduit have been updated since 2016, including changes to product performance,” said Lance MacNevin, director of engineering for PPI’s power & communications division. “An inaccurate or out-of-date product specification can cause confusion among suppliers or result in an inadequate product being installed.” The document, MS-5 – which is available free on PPI’s website – gives specifiers a starting point in developing final specifications for a project. It includes reference to various product specifications and describes when and how to use these industry documents.
