PVC ADDITIVES | MATERIALS

2024, and is projected to reach $7.6bn by 2030, ris- ing at a CAGR of 5.22%. This increase in demand is partly a result of PVC materials being used in more infrastructure projects, plumbing systems, wiring, and industrial applications, which require stabilis- ers to reduce deterioration caused by light, heat, and other external factors to ensure longevity, stability, and performance.

Bio-based wax Clariant announced in May that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved its bio-based Licocare RBW wax additives for use in rigid PVC food-contact applications, expanding the existing FDA approval beyond polyester materials and representing continued “regulatory progress” in Clariant’s systematic approach to securing comprehensive food-contact approvals across materials and regions. The FDA approval covers the Licocare RBW 100 series and RBW 300 series, including saponified grades RBW 360 Vita and RBW 560 Vita. The authorisation specifies use as a processing aid, lubricant, release agent, and/or slip additive in single- and repeat-use rigid PVC at concentrations up to 0.5% by weight for all food

types except infant formula and human milk. Conditions of use include FDA food-contact

categories C through H, with a maximum tempera- ture of 80°C for hot-fill applications. Additionally, Clariant has received a Letter of No Objection (LONO) for repeated use at concentrations up to 1% in food-contact articles for food processing
