BYK Instruments has expanded its line of

portable spectrophotometers with the Spectro2go XS, which is designed with a reduced measuring aperture (5 mm diameter) for measuring small parts. The Spectro2 family is designed for colour quality control. The instruments combine colour measurement with a 60° gloss meter and an integrated portable fluorimeter to measure fluorescent materials. The instruments use an LED light source that provides temperature stability and

software for vision-based colour assessment. The company says its approach has been used in textile and apparel, and can now also be applied to plastics colour management. DigiView provides a way to view calibrated colour images in the DigiEye Viewing Station. The company says it allows visualisation of colour on product and in context. The latest from the company is the VeriVide portal, which is a web-based platform that can be used to store and share images. Different light sources have a significant impact on how colour appears. For plastic consumer goods or packaging displayed in a retail store to have the expected colour, colour matching during the design process must consider the light source and conditions under which the product will be displayed. A significant challenge today is that stores are switching from fluorescent lighting to LED lighting, but this display change is not always communicated or translated into colour standards, said Russell Thorpe, Technical Consultant for Colour Management at VeriVide. “A decade ago, colour control under fluorescent
