Clariant launched an AddWorks PPA additives range that does not contain PFAS, inorganic, silicone, or polysiloxane materials

PPA 101 FG, primarily focused on EMEA, Americas, and SEAP markets, is a 100% active fine grain composition that can be incorporated into a resin, compound or master- batch. AddWorks PPA 122 G, targeted for Greater China and SEAP regions, is in a masterbatch form with the same dosing level as traditional PPA masterbatches, simplifying the transition for manufacturers. The latest from Avient is a liquid processing aid de- signed for film packaging producers in Latin America who want to use a non-fluorinated option without intentionally added PFAS in PE or PP applications, including food-con- tact uses, with relevant FDA compliance. Hiformer Non- PFAS Process Aid with Antioxidants helps reduce friction between the polymer and metal, which can reduce melt fracture and die build-up, and lower torque to support higher throughput. Typical loading dosage rates are 0.1-0.5% (1,000-5,000 ppm). Avient noted a growing demand for non-PFAS solutions. “While there is no drop-in, one-size-fits-all replacement

for PFAS, there are alternatives,” said Avient. “With multiple options available, Avient technical experts will help custom- ers focus on the solution that best meets the application’s needs. Avient’s new Hiformer Non-PFAS Process Aid with Antioxidants and other non-PFAS processing aids from Avient can be tailored to any carrier.”

Antifog and antiblock PPAs are often needed to ensure that the film surface has good clarity and appearance so that the resulting package has the desired aesthetic. For some packages, particularly for food that can produce condensation, antifog additives are also important.

Both cast PP film and BOPP film are finding growing use in food packaging, says additive supplier Palsgaard. The latest addition to the company’s Einar range of plant-based, food-grade antifog polymer additives is Einar 406 PL, designed for hot fog applications in random copolymer PP films that require immediate anti-fog onset for packaging of
