ProTec assets sold to Bekum and Piovan
Administrators acting for German engineering group ProTec Polymer Processing, which went into administra- tion in August last year, have sold some of the plastics machinery maker’s key assets, including its long fibre thermoplastic (LFT) systems business.
German blow moulding machinery maker Bekum Group acquired the LFT business unit last month and has established a new operation under the Bekum Services name. It will be based at Bensheim in Germany (where ProTec was headquartered) and will take on sales, service, installation and develop- ment of the former ProTec LFT pultrusion systems, which include an 8-strand lab line and 32 and 64-strand production systems.
In a separate deal, Italian ancillary maker Piovan has acquired certain Protec

materials handling, dosing and recycling systems assets. The acquisition was made
through Piovan’s German subsidiary FDM and is intended to strengthen the company’s group presence in the country. Piovan said the deal does not include people or plant and it does not intend to continue to manufacture Protec products. It will, however, maintain installed equipment via FDM, as well
as offering Piovan upgrades and retrofits to existing ProTec customers. n Piovan Group announced an 85% increase in sales for 2022 to €531m, benefiting from the contribution from its acquisition at the end of 2021 of US firm IPEG, the parent of Conair, Pelletron and Republic Machine. Adjusted EBITDA was up 54% to €63m.
