CPF has applied the European cage-free stand- ard at Wang Somboon farm. The closed chicken house has a low stock- ing density of 7 laying hens per square me- tre compared with the general standard of a maximum 9 hens per square metre.

Somkid Wannalukkhee, senior vice president for egg busi- ness at CPF, says that farming is an integral part of CPF with an emphasis on animal welfare to deliver safe food to consumers and address the increasing global demand for animal welfare products.

The laying hens are raised based on the internationally rec- ognised ‘five freedoms’: consisting of freedom from hun- ger and thirst, freedom from discomfort, freedom from pain, injury and disease, freedom from fear and distress, and freedom to express their animal behaviour.
