Broilers consuming sufficient amounts of high-quality feed, like ChickCare, during the first days of life are prepared for high feed intake later in life while maintaining a healthy gut.
Feed safety: providing high quality feed Feed safety measures reduce the risk of pathogens and con- taminants that can threaten gut integrity or microbiota bal- ance. Harmful bacteria such as Salmonella and
E.coli consume feed nutrients, reduce performance and can trigger health problems, especially in young birds. Quality control measures are vital to minimise raw material contamination risk. Trouw Nutrition’s Microbial Risk Management solutions prevent harmful bacteria from proliferating rapidly. Selko Fysal Feed, a potent blend of organic acids that reduces Enterobacteriace- ae, has demonstrated efficacy via a synergistic and broad-spectrum effect (Figure 1).

Moulds adversely affect feed smell, flavour and nutritional value. They also produce mycotoxins, which above certain levels compromise animal health and performance. Common mycotoxins include aflatoxins, ochratoxins, DON, T-2 toxin and fumonisins. Within AMR programmes, moulds and mycotoxins should be mitigated at the highest level, as they have an adverse effect on gut integrity and immunity, depending on the type of my- cotoxin. Trouw Nutrition solutions support feed and poultry producers in managing mould and mycotoxin threats. Ap- plied during feed production, Selko Fylax Forte-HC effectively reduces moulds in feed and increases feed’s shelf life. Fylax Forte-HC liquid contains a patent-pending Activated Propionic Acid technology which has proven to increase the effectiveness of propionic acid.
Analytical technologies While moulds can be reduced, mycotoxins are generally unaf- fected by heat or organic acids. Eliminating moulds is not enough to mitigate mycotoxin risk. Rapid, reliable analytical technologies and methods are required to analyse mycotoxins in raw materials and complete feeds. Effective solutions, such as Trouw Nutrition’s Selko TOXO-XL containing smectite clays, can bind mycotoxins. High quality smectite clay can selectively bind aflatoxins, ergot toxins and endotox- ins while glucose biopolymer from yeast cell walls can en- hance the production tight junction proteins. Besides this, ac- tivated beta-glucans in TOXO-XL support birds’ non-specific immune systems. Trouw Nutrition offers rapid on-site myco- toxin analysis via Mycomaster. Feed management, including early access to quality nutrition, good feed structure and safety can support a comprehensive AMR approach.
