ents and congresses in the poultry sector have been cancelled or postponed. For the time being, the y industry is still going strong. Apart from some minor trade disruptions – China had a backlog of shipping containers at its ports which prevented new reefers with chicken meat coming in – it was business as usual. Indeed, it could be said that people still have to eat, even if they are in quaran- tine at home. But that is true only to a certain extent. With people not travelling anymore, not al- lowed to go to restaurants and events, consumption in the food service industry will drop drasti-
cally. The first signs already indicate that some businesses in the food service sector will not survive the crisis and are filing for bankruptcy. The coronavirus has put us all in uncharted territory and only time will tell how big the damage will be. It’s pretty safe to say that every sector will suffer to some extent.
