Aquaculture production continues to grow

A fish worker throws feed to tilapia fish which are being bred within a netted area in Lake Azuei Fond in Parisien, Haiti. The fish feed market is expected to grow considerably in the coming years. The market is expected to be worth US$ 32.8 bn by the end of 2020 and to have a compound annual growth rate of 11% between 2020 and 2030, according to a market report published in Future Market Insights. The global fisheries and aquaculture sector contin- ues to expand. The FAO estimated that global fish production reached around 179 million tonnes in 2018, an all-time record. In 2018, about 88% of global fish production was used for direct human consumption. The remaining 12% was used for non-food purposes, 82% of which was used to produce fishmeal and fish oil.
