Some states are looking to follow Texas’ protocol. If
there is a personal care service given to a student while they’re riding the bus either to school or back home, if that recorded service complies with that student’s IEP, it will increase reimbursement rates, Taylor said. “We have the software in place to record that,” he add-
ed. “It’s complicated because companies have identified for us 11 different personal care services that are avail- able for reimbursement on a school bus, but that doesn’t mean that every student is eligible for those 11 different personal care services.” SMART tag also includes medical notes on the tablets. While many school districts are eligible for Medicaid
reimbursement for transportation related to students with disabilities such as when specialized vehicles are required, the associated compliance requirements such as documentation and signature collection can be a barrier, noted Sofia Gligoric, Geotab strategic communi- cations specialist. “Through integrations with solutions like Treker and Tyler Drive, Geotab helps schools streamline these com- pliance processes,” Gligoric said. “Features such as digital signature capture, trip verification and secure cloud- based documentation make it easier for districts to meet Medicaid audit requirements and reduce administrative burden, ensuring they can confidently claim eligible reimbursements.” Transfinder assists districts aiming to report to Med-
icaid for funding reimbursement through custom reporting, noted John Gieschen, the company’s enter- prise implementation manager. He said Transfinder is able to customize reports , including attendance track- ing, to meet a district’s needs. Many districts use the company’s Wayfinder app, which allows drivers to take attendance manually or with RFID cards, he said. ●
