School Transportation News Published by STN Media Group
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published a final rule in December that puts into place the strictest engine emissions levels yet, paving the way for the adoption of more zero and ultra-low emissions options, and potentially signaling the end of diesel. Read the article at

I appreciate School Transportation News informing us of all the changes happening with diesel, electric, etc. I thought the article placed diesel power buses in the positive light they should be in. Several of my colleagues who saw the bus picture associated with the article were very disappointed in the selection of a poorly main- tained school bus picture spewing smoke from the tailpipe. [Editor’s Note: The picture has since been updated.] We strive very hard, and we spend a lot of taxpayer dollars, in maintaining our fleet of [in- ternal combustion engine]-powered school buses because we care for the health of our children and environment. As the article stated, today’s diesel buses put out 1/60th of the emissions of older diesel models. Unfortunately, many in our profession have climbed on the anti-diesel bandwagon. It’s a shame. Electric buses will hurt us more in the long run from an operational perspective than what people are willing to talk about.

If we had more of this, that would be a great thing! Facebook/ Justin Woodrome
I think all superintendents should carry a school bus endorsement, if they oversee bus drivers and make policies. Especially discipline of children. Facebook/Robbi Robison
