Johnathan Songer, known to his colleagues as JJ, started as a school bus driver in February 2017. While training for his commercial driver’s license training, he wanted learn the other side of driving, which is how he found himself in the bus garage a year later. “The best part of my job is knowing that the job I do, not only


keeps my great coworkers safe but the hundreds of children that ride the bus to and from school on a daily, plus all the field trips they do in and out of town,” Songer said. Scott Pauley, the service manager for dealer Creative Bus Sales,


stated in his nomination that Songer achieves all that is requested of him. Currently, there is only one mechanic at Songer’s location, however there are supposed to be three. “One is out on surgery and the other left for better job oppor- tunities back in September,” Songer said, adding the district is also in the middle in a driver shortage. Thus, Songer drives a bus daily, which leaves no mechanic in the shop during those hours. “The shortage of mechanics and crew leaders in the county, JJ


has stepped up and performed tasks and more,” Pauley wrote, adding that he’s also been very involved with the pilot of the county’s electric bus. Songer added that the pilot with the electric bus was for a few months, but they are supposed to be getting one in their fleet soon. “Within the past five years we have had some stuff upgraded like tools and equipment,” he said. “Our executive director of transporta- tion Brette Fraley makes sure that each faculty has everything they
