President Hammond’s Closing Speech

resident Hammond closed the annual meeting by thanking delegates for par- ticipating in the democratic process. Annual meeting delegates voted to
continue to campaign on equity issues and the funding formula and took the historic step of adding two seats for members of designated groups to the Executive. He acknowledged the important work ETFO does on behalf of its members and students and he stressed the im- portance of mobilizing members for the next election. Outlining ETFO priorities moving forward, he said, “We have been committed to a federation-wide focus on violence in schools. We are pushing for improved provisions for educators and more support for students. It is unacceptable that any of our members face violence in the schools. We have less than one year until the next provincial election. This is a critical time for us to engage our members and have a meaningful impact on building bet- ter schools.”
