Rogers Offers Substrate Materials and Plating

Rogers, CT — Rogers Corporation’s Power Electronics Solutions (PES) group is now offering its curamik® ADVANTAGE family of features and process enhancements for curamik ceramic circuit substrate materials.

curamik Performance, and curamik Thermal, which offer a broad range of thermal conductivities from 24 to 170 W/m-K. The materials are formulated to

effectively disperse heat in power electronics circuits with heat-generating, high-pow - er active devices, such as IGBTs and MOSFETs. The ADVANTAGE

family includes a number of plating options for all four curamik circuit mate- rials, such as nickel (Ni), nickel-gold (NiAu), and sil- ver (Ag) plating. Silver plating can also

Ceramic-based curamik ADVANTAGE circuits.

The curamik ADVANTAGE ma-

terials are designed to optimize the performance of high-power circuits through a wide assortment of servic- es and processes. These include several plating

options for improved copper surface finish, two different treatments for minimizing PCB surface roughness, selective etching, precise laser drilling of small-diameter through- holes, addition of solder mask to pre- vent solder bridging, and optimiza- tion for advanced silver sintering. High-voltage curamik ceramic-

based circuit materials include cu- ramik Power, curamik Power Plus,

be provided over selective areas, allowing some cop- per to remain bare. The plating processes are per- formed in-house by means of wet chemical etching, and help to improve the ef-

ficiency and effectiveness of wire- bonding and soldering processes. Additional processes include:

chemical and mechanical treatments to improve surface roughness; treat- ment with solder mask; treatment of many of the materials to provide par- tial-discharge-free performance; elim - ination of voids in curamik ceramic materials; and laser drilling of through-holes down to 1 mm (0.04 in.)

Suffering from any of these Solder Paste Problems?

Voids Flux Residue Slumping Printing problems Short stencil life

Eliminating these problems starts with the flux. Higher quality flux means better solder joints, and high quality flux starts with powder.
