wash established the Shannon Burwash Memorial Scholarships to honour the legacy of Shannon’s love for the horse and extensive involvement in the Quarter Horse industry. Shannon was an active director and treasurer for both the Quarter Horse Association of Al- berta and the Canadian Quarter Horse Association, and was an Al- berta director for the American Quarter Horse Association. Her in- volvement also extended to Equine Canada committees. The Shannon Burwash Award for Leadership and Excellence in Equine, Agri-Business and/or Agricultural Studies encourages and supports horse-oriented stu- dents pursuing post-secondary un- dergraduate or graduate education so they are better prepared for leadership and excellence in the equine industry. Two or more awards valued

at a minimum of $5,000 each, ap- plied directly to tuition. To Apply and Learn More: https://calgaryfoundation.org/awar ds/scholarships-awards-bursaries/ Open for Equine and Agricultural

Shannon Burwash Awards These awards were estab-

lished to honor the legacy of Shan- non’s love for the horse and her contribution to the horse industry to benefit Canadian postsecondary students in any field of study, with a preference for those pursuing agriculture, agri-business or equineoriented studies. Shannon’s involvement with

the horse industry, and more specifically the Quarter Horse in- dustry, was extensive. She was an active director and treasurer for the Quarter Horse Association of Alberta and the Canadian Quarter Horse Association and an Alberta director for the American Quarter Horse Association. Shannon also was very active on Equine Canada committees. She loved riding and showing horses and promoted good horsemanship, sportsman- ship and a love for their pursuits. She passed away suddenly in 2013, after returning from the Sun Circuit in Arizona with the three- year-old gelding, “Soo Good”, she

and Wayne raised. “Besides her family, Shan-

non had two big passions in life,” says Wayne. “First, she loved the horse and was devoted to enrich- ing the horse industry. Her second passion was education. She felt strongly that all young people should pursue post-secondary ed- ucation.” Guided by these pas- sions, Wayne knew that a scholarship supporting young peo- ple involved with horses and agri- culture and pursuing advanced education in those fields was a fit- ting tribute to Shannon.

Private and semi-private lessons – I’d love to meet you and your horse!

If you’d like an eye on the ground, I make farm visits for riders without a regular coach.

I help riders: • teaching their horses new skills, solving training issues – simply.

• a judge’s perspective to navigate horse show patterns, courses and tests.
