MAY 2022 THE RIDER /21 Area 3 Quarter Horse Promotional Club Profile: Sadie MacPhail

Name: Sadie MacPhail Horse: Sheza Chocolate Kat (aka. “Frosty”) 2013 bay roan mare Age: 15 Division:Youth

When did you start rid- ing?

I started taking regular

riding lessons when I was six and got my first quarter horse, a retired lesson horse named “Easy”.

How did horses come into your life? We’ve always had

horses in our family and currently we have a few Paints and Quarter Horses at our farm at home. Frosty and I have been partners since 2018 with coaching and training by Jamie Gardy.

What is your previous rid- ing experience?

Before I started show-

ing at Area 3, I competed with “Rocky” at the Ontario Paint Horse Club shows, and at local fairs and club shows (North River Riders).

What classes do you show in?

The classes I show in

are halter, showmanship, eq- uitation, hunter under sad- dle, trail, horsemanship, and ranch riding. I tried out ranch riding for the first- time last year and really en- joyed it!

What awards did you re- ceive this past year? Awards I won in

the past year include High Point Level 1 Youth and High Point Rookie Youth at Sum- mer Circuit, and High Point Rookie Youth at the Summer Finale show. I was also re- serve champion in eq- uitation, high scoring overall novice, and high scoring novice eq- uitation in the OAQHA Challenge. I would re- ally like to thank my parents for supporting me in my equine ad- ventures, my coach Jamie Gardy, as well as

representative from international committee and three other indi- viduals appointed by Show Committee chair. The task force is to provide a report to the Show Council after reporting task force recommendations to Show Committee. These actions will occur prior to the 2023 AQHA Convention. It is recom- mended for a 30-day re- view by the Show Committee prior

to

sending to Show Coun- cil. •

Add AQHYA

World Championship Show awards to recognize the all- around champion and reserve champion for both the 13-&- Under and 14 to 18 divisions. • Amend SHW251.9 to add the Global Handicap Rating sys- tem in open team roping classes at the 2022 and future AQHA world championship shows. Ex- hibitors with Global Handicap Rating higher than elite 5 head- ing would only be eligible for Level 3 in open heading. Ex- hibitors with Global Handicap Rating higher than 7 heeling would only be eligible for Level 3 in open heeling. •

Include green working

hunter and green hunter hack as AQHA World Show stakes classes.

Halter Subcommittee • Approved AQHA Show Coun- cil recommendation for legal counsel to review the proposal to allow a qualified person to track a halter horse if this is requested by an exhibitor due to age or dis- ability. The full standing commit-

tee reports are available at www.aqha.com/committee-re- ports.

Till next time, remember

to visit the OQHA, AQHA, and CQHA websites for Quarter Horse news! If I can be of assistance,

please contact me at: Ph: (519) 949-4956 or by e-mail at: tbrkathy@hsfx.ca.

the team at Gardy Training Centre.

What does the future hold for you and your show partner? We are hoping to have

a fuller show season this year in Ontario (and maybe another trip to the Quarter Horse Congress in the Fall).

What was life like during the pandemic? Throughout all the ups

and downs of the past two years I was grateful to have horses as a steady influence and constant in my life.

They still need to be fed, cared for and exercised de- spite COVID.

Anything unique or funny that happened to you at a horse show? The first time I took

Frosty in a trail class, we backed over and stomped on the flowers, and made the box look like a game of pick up sticks! Thank goodness we’ve gotten better since then.

What do you do outside of riding and looking after your horse?

I enjoy music and play

the trumpet in stage band at my high school, and have enjoyed being part of my high school basketball, alpine ski and tennis teams. I am also a member of nu- merous 4H clubs in my area. For the past few years I have worked during the summer months at a local berry farm, and weekends during the

winter at Gardy Training Centre in addition to helping out my parents at their gar- den Centre.
